If you have visited the Water Works over Summer 2016 you will have probably noticed the Water Works ‘Pumpkin Patch’. A tangle of vines and wildflowers in one of the old tanks (incidentally, this was filled with compost made from the green waste bins collected in East Renfrewshire).
As a previous post explains, local children grew pumpkins from seed in the classroom and planted them out in the old tank. Once established we had hundreds of pumpkins!
Now with Halloween fast approaching the pumpkins are ready for harvest.
It was a pleasure to welcome back McCready Family Centre, Cross Arthurlie Primary and St Mark’s Primary to collect pumpkins. These will be taken back to school, carved, painted, used as ingredients in pumpkin based recipes and, in one instance, to be used as props for the school Halloween disco.
A fabulous project for all involved.
Fortunately there are plenty of pumpkins left over for our Pumpkin Carving event Saturday 29 Oct and Halloween event 31 Oct. Check out events page for further details.
